Dodge Brings Back the Performance Pack

The SEMA Show is in full swing in Las Vegas this week and the Chrysler group is set to revive a couple of favorites from the muscle car’s heyday.

A range of Dodge cars and trucks will feature Scat Pack performance upgrades or Shaker hoods. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association show features hundreds of tuners who customize vehicles’ looks and performance and is the biggest event of the year for Chrysler’s Mopar parts division.

ImageMopar chief Pietro Gorlier stated that they’re putting more emphasis on customization. That emphasis includes three different “Scat Pack” performance packages for the Dodge Charger sport sedan, Challenger coupe and Dart compact sedan. Dodge last sold Scat Package performance kits for its cars from 1968-1971.

The three new kits offer specially programmed engine control units, new air intake and exhaust, even performance camshafts and cylinder heads. Scat Pack performance kits go on sale in spring 2014 and each of the three packages will have its own badge.

Dodge will also be building 2,000 Challengers with Shaker hoods that allow the top of the engine to stick up out of the hood, so the engine can be seen shaking as it revs its Hemi awesomeness. The Hemi Shaker package will include performance tires, modified stability control, upgrades to steering, brakes and suspension and can be combined with any of the Scat Packs.
