Happy Halloween! Since its spooky inception six years ago, Monster Makeover, sponsored by the Tuscaloosa News, has brought together young student artists and area community members in an annual auction and festival to raise money for arts education here in West Alabama. This year, first grade students from Tuscaloosa Academy were selected to draw and write about their scariest monsters. Then, local area artists re-imagine the children’s work in their own spooky way. This year, the event moved to a beautiful new venue, the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum, and was a huge success. As the only paper artist, every year I wonder if my monster will be a big hit, and this year, it was bigger than ever!
